VAL DE MEIGAS 2023 ALBARINO RIAS BAIXAS

Val De Meigas is a white wine from Spain's Rías Baixas region, known for its Albariño grape variety. The 2022 vintage is celebrated for its refreshing taste and coastal influence, featuring a mix of floral and fruity aromas with a straw-yellow color. It's produced from some of the oldest and most coastal vineyards in the area, emphasizing sustainable farming and natural fermentation processes. The wine's tasting profile includes a range of flavors from lemon zest and melon to nectarine and green apple, with hints of ocean spray and almond, making it complex and engaging.  Val De Meigas Albariño is noted for its balance of fruitiness and acidity, complemented by a subtle coastal salinity, offering a unique and versatile tasting experience that captures the enchanting spirit of Galicia.

The wine is the creation of Rebeca Barral, who launched Val De Meigas in 2016, drawing from her family's deep roots in the wine industry. Rebeca’s family has been established for generations in the town of Ribadumia in the heart of the Salnés valley. The Salnés is the oldest and most coastal of the Rías Baixas appellation’s recognized subzones,  and is generally believed to the be the genetic birthplace of the Albariño variety. Rebeca’s family have been producing wine commercially in Ribadumia since 1983, but it wasn’t until 2015 that Rebeca decided to take charge of her own project, sourced from select parcels of her family’s holdings. Her impish imagination settled on the trade name Val de Meigasmeiga (cognate with the English ‘mage’) being a witch or sorceress, a common folkloric figure in Galicia and neighboring Asturias. She has also finetuned the winemaking to express her preferred style, utilizing natural yeasts while avoiding skin contact and extended lees aging to achieve a pure, light, mineral style of oceanic refreshment at an amazingly affordable price. Pair with spicy fish tacos, ceviche or even soft cheeses like burrata or semi-hard cheeses like a salty feta or manchego.
